The Unforgetable Horrible Dark Night that Haunted Me

The Night It All Began
Some nights are meant to be forgotten. This wasn’t one of them. It started simply enough. I was lying in bed, drifting off to sleep, when a sharp, unfamiliar pain shot through my leg. It felt like someone was pinning me down, pressing with all their might. My eyes shot open, and in the dim light of my room, I saw it – a black shadow, looming at the foot of my bed.
Fear, cold and sharp, gripped my heart. Was I dreaming? I blinked, trying to clear the image, but it remained. Panic set in. I scrambled for the light switch, flipping it on. The shadow vanished. In the sudden brightness, I tried to convince myself it was just a trick of the mind. To be safe, I began chanting a prayer, then climbed back into bed, hoping to find the sleep that had been so rudely interrupted.
But the night wasn’t over.
A Presence in the Dark

Just as I started to feel safe, the sensation returned. A painful pressure was felt on my legs, a weight on my chest. I opened my eyes, and there it was again – the same black shadow, pressing down on me. It felt real, a suffocating weight that stole my breath. I felt trapped, unable to move.
With all my might, I forced myself to start chanting again, the words of the prayer a desperate plea. I managed to break free from the paralyzing fear and stumbled to the light switch. The moment the light flooded the room, the shadow was gone.
I raced to my family, crying, trying to explain what had happened. They listened, a mix of concern and skepticism on their faces. “It was just a nightmare,” my mother said gently, “It happens at your age.” But I knew it wasn’t. This was real. I wasn’t just dreaming.
My family, seeing my genuine distress, grew serious. My mom gave me a glass of water and performed a ritual with some blessed ash (Bhabhoot / Bhasam of Kuldevi blessing), trying to calm my racing heart. They told me to go back to bed, to try and get some sleep. But that night, every time I closed my eyes, the shadow was there, a silent watcher in the dark. It was a long, terrifying night, and I didn’t finally fall asleep until close to dawn.
The Shadow Returns

The next day, my family tried to rationalize what had happened. They scolded me for watching scary horror videos, claiming that by watching such videos I am attracting negative energy. I tried to forget, to put the events of the previous night behind me.
But the feeling lingered, a dark shadow remained over my thoughts. That evening, as my family went out for a walk, I was alone again. I felt hungry and went to the kitchen for some snacks. When I returned to my room, I saw it again – the same black shadow, standing tall at my doorway. It was more defined this time, as a threatening figure of pure darkness.
I screamed for my sister, but my voice failed me. I was frozen, unable to move or speak. My sister called my aunt, who tried to calm me down & asked what happened? Why are you crying? but the words wouldn’t come out from me. The fear had stolen my voice, leaving me utterly helpless.
A Ray of Hope
My parents came home, and my father, a man of faith, went to see a Pandit ji, a spiritual guide. He explained everything, and soon, we were on our way to the temple. Pandit ji gave me a small paper square, blessed with sacred mantras, and instructed me to drink water after dipping the same in a glass of water.
The next day, Pandit ji placed his hand on my head. With a powerful presence, he explained that a negative energy had attached itself towards me, likely because I had unknowingly stepped on something left at a crossroads. He assured us that he would protect me, and he gave us two blessed flowers and asked us to put them in the holy water (Ganga Jal) and then sprinkle this water throughout our home.
That night, I had a terrifying dream. The shadow returned, and this time it spoke. “I won’t go away so easily,” it hissed. “I’ll always be with you.” The dread was overwhelming. The next morning, we rushed back to Pandit ji, who, after hearing my dream, told me not to be afraid. He said the shadow couldn’t harm me any more.
My father, who is also a very spiritual man, spent the entire night in the next room, chanting sacred mantra provided by his Guruji. “I will see what this dark shadow is who is trying to harm my family,” he told us, “I will protect my family, you all can sleep without any fear.”
The Ultimate Protection
That night, I had another dream, but this time, it was different. I saw a group of figures all dressed in black, trying to harm my family. Then, powerful angels in brilliant white light appeared, shining like the moonlight. They fought the dark figures, overpowering them and creating a protective golden light around our home. The evil figures tried to break through the shield, but the angels burned them away, one by one.
Then, three divine beings appeared before me—Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva, and Lord Sherawali Mata. They told me not to worry, that they were with me. They said I was a pure soul, as were my parents, and that their good deeds and daily prayers had brought them divine protection.
After that dream, the fear was gone. The black shadow never returned. I still wear the sacred thread (Raksha Sutra) that Pandit ji gave me, a constant reminder of the night I faced the darkness and, with the help of faith and family, emerged into the light.
